Vivian Joanne Clausen, a beacon of kindness and faith, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, in Stuart, Iowa at the Stuart Community Care Center. Born to Eric and Astrid (Samuelson) Axman on September 22, 1937, in Pomeroy, Iowa, Vivian’s life was a testament to her thoughtful nature and her commitment to her family, her church, and her community.
Growing up in the tight-knit community of Pomeroy, Vivian developed a strong foundation of faith that would guide her throughout her life. She was baptized in October of 1937 and confirmed on June 1, 1952, at her family's beloved church, which was the cornerstone of their lives. Vivian graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1955 and went on to pursue her education in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she earned her degree as a radiology technologist.
Upon returning to Iowa, Vivian’s heart led her to James Norman Clausen, and the two were united in marriage on June 30, 1957, at the Lutheran Church in Elfsborg, Iowa. Their harmonious partnership flourished on the Clausen family farm in Dexter, where together they embraced the joys and challenges of farming, raising livestock, and nurturing their growing family.
Vivian’s professional life was as diverse as it was fulfilling. She worked at the Dexter Clinic for Dr. Chapler and Dr. Osborn, and later, in the late '80s and '90s, she brought joy to many at Drews Chocolates in Dexter. However, her role as a farm wife was where she thrived most, supporting the family farm with unwavering dedication and raising her beloved children.
Her involvement with the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter was a reflection of her enduring faith. A longtime member, Vivian served with the Lutheran Ladies Aide and the Ladies Guild. Her generosity knew no bounds, especially when it came to preparing funeral dinners. Her famous ham balls and scalloped potatoes were more than just meals; they were a warm embrace to those in mourning.
Vivian's interests were as nurturing as her personality. She found solace in her gardens, tending to both vegetables and flowers with a gentle hand. Sewing was another skill she honed with precision and love. Yet, it was her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, that brought her the most joy. Time spent with them was cherished, each moment a precious thread woven into the fabric of her legacy.
Described by those who knew her as kind, thoughtful, and faith-filled, Vivian leaves behind a legacy of love and service. She is survived by her children, the late John Clausen and wife Cindy and their children, Eric, Jeff, Josh, and Adam; daughter Cindy Clausen and daughter Johanna; son Dan Clausen, wife Sheila Clausen, and their children, Adriana, Richard, and Kelsee; and the late Joe Clausen. Her sister, Delores Lock, along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends, will also hold her memory dear.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, Eric and Astrid, and her brothers, Kenny and Marvin. Her passing marks the end of an era for those who were fortunate enough to know her, yet her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.
Vivian Joanne Clausen's life was a beautiful mosaic of devotion, service, and unconditional love. As we bid her farewell, we celebrate the indelible mark she left on our hearts and the countless lives she touched with her gentle presence. Her memory will be cherished, and her legacy will endure in the lives of those she loved.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter. Funeral services will held 10:30 A.M.
