Richard LeRoy (Roy) Tibbetts passed peacefully on the morning of August 22, 2023, at the age of 87. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023, starting at 10 am, at St. Mary’s of Nazareth Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Catholic Burial at 11 am. The family will welcome guests at a luncheon immediately following the service, with a graveside service beginning at 1:30 pm at the Irish Settlement, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Cumming, Iowa.

Roy was born to Mary Cecilia Tibbetts in Des Moines, Iowa on November 17, 1935. He attended St. John’s Catholic Grade School and Dowling Catholic High School, where he excelled in both football and baseball. Roy met the love of his life, Margaret M. Roach (Peggy) and they were married on February 14, 1956. Assisting with the ceremony were brothers David and Larry as altar boys and Robert as Best Man. During their 67 years of marriage, they welcomed four children.

Roy worked for the Meredith Corporation for over 35 years in the print division before promotion to management, retiring in 1992. During his time at Meredith, Roy served as President of the Local Mailers Union from 1970 to 1974. In his free time Roy enjoyed dancing with his wife, long discussions and the game of billiards.

Roy is survived by his loving wife Peggy, and 3 children, Teresa Tibbetts Hoffman, Michele (Todd) Rhoads, and youngest son Bill Tibbetts; His youngest brother Larry (Mickey) Tibbetts and sister-in-law MaryKay Tibbetts; Daughter-in- law Lori Tibbetts; Grandchildren Kinsey Hoffman and Sarah Hoffman, Melissa Tibbetts, Allie (Joseph) Hutchins, and Zachary Tibbetts, Roni Jo (Jordan) McCann and Delaney Rhoads; 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by his mother Mary Cecelia Oxenfield and stepfather Theodore Oxenfield; His eldest son Richard M. (Rick) Tibbetts; Brothers Robert L. Tibbetts, David E. Tibbetts and sister-in-law Claire Meng Tibbetts.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Dowling Catholic High School or St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church.

Roy was a thoughtful individual who loved his family and friends. He believed in hard work, dedication, and respecting others. He spent his life instilling these same values in his children. He loved and is loved, and his words of wisdom will be missed immensely.
