Page 1Death of Mrs. Middleton
The death of Mrs. Mahala Ella Middleton, one of the pioneer settlers of Ohio township, occurred at her home in Truro on August 4. She was 85 years old.
Mrs. Middleton was the last member of a large family. She was the daughter of Henry and Risby Creger, and was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, January 16, 1850. When 3 years old she came with her parents to Madison county in a wagon train, and the remainder of her life was spent in or near Truro.
On December 10, 1872, she was married to Joseph Evans Middleton. He died in 1924. They were the parents of three children, one of them, a son, dying at the age of 22 years. Two daughters, Mrs. Carrie Shanklin of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Maude Moorman of Truro, survive. She also leaves three grandchildren.
Mrs. Middleton was a member of the Christian church in Truro where for a long period of years she was a strong and influential worker.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church on August 6, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Rector, assisted by the Rev. Frederick Cooper of Frankford, Indiana, a former pastor at Truro. Burial was in the Young cemetery.
