DEATH OF MR. JOHN ACKLIN

Mr. John Acklin, whose illness has been so often mentioned in these columns, died at his home on sixth Street at about half-past three o’clock this morning. He had been confined to his room almost six months, and had been a suffer 20 months. His afflictions were of the heart and stomach. The deceased was born in Licking county, Ohio, and was 52 years of age, April 10th.

He served his country faithfully as a soldier in the war with Mexico, and came to Iowa in 1854. His home was at Winterset, where he was married in 1854 to Miss Caroline Murray, sister to Hon. B. F. Murray, who ably represented this district in the State Senate eight years ago. His wife and four children survive him, the youngest child being aged one and a half years.

His death was peaceful and without a struggle, although his illness had been of the most painful nature. During his sickness he had the unceasing and affection care of his wife who is not known rest four months, and later her labors were supplemented by those of the deceased’s only sister, Mrs. Testevin of Wisconsin. Neighbors and friends were also generous in their assistance in sympathy. Mrs. Acklin is now prostrated as the penalty for never ceasing ministrations to her afflicted husband during the many months just past.

John Acklin was an honest man and those in this community who knew him best were his best friends. The funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 o’clock A. M. at the late home of the deceased.
