Leo Leonard, who was shot through his right lung last Saturday night in the south part of town, died Tuesday morning.

Fifty Years Ago - January 12, 1881

Lee Leonard was shot on Saturday evening, dying on Tuesday from the wound. The shot is reported to have been inflicted by a stranger. The supposition is that the murderer was someone who had a grudge against Leonard.

Transcriber's notes: Per the Winterset Cemetery Ledger, he was a 32 year old school teacher and a native of New York. From the January 15, 1881 Madisonian - "Cy Close is arrested by Deputy Sheriff Bare and Constable Deeter for the murder of L. G. Leonard".
