Nancy Fagan, 82, of Macksburg, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.

Nancy Gale Alexander was born in Maryville, Missouri on April 21, 1941, the daughter of Ossian Galen and Edith Helene (Peery) Alexander. She went to school in the small town of Elmo, Missouri and played basketball. She moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1958 and was united in marriage to John Fagan on July 29, 1967 in Papillion, Nebraska. She later moved to Macksburg, Iowa in 1999, and resided there since.

Nancy was a waitress and cashier for many years. She worked for Rock Brook Village Coffee Shop and Roseman Covered Bridge Gift Shop. Nancy was a devoted Christian and was a member of the Oak Grove Community Church. She always talked about the close friends she found there. She enjoyed the woman's Bible studies and singing and skits they performed in the Christmas programs.

Nancy loved anything horse related. She and John were members of the local saddle club (Wolf Brothers Saddle Club) and they rode in parades and often the grand entry at local rodeos with the saddle club. They also enjoyed trail riding. Several years they attended the River City Roundup week-long trail ride from Ogallala to Omaha. They also loved country western dancing.

Nancy loved Native American History and collected artifacts, pottery and jewelry. She loved to travel. It was not unusual for her and John to take off on a last minute trip and be gone for days. They also enjoyed camping at the little lake in Orient.

Spending time with her family was important to her. Nancy’s home was the smallest but everyone wanted her to host the family holidays because they loved her cooking. She enjoyed watching all the dance recitals, softball, soccer, football games and horse shows of her grandkids and great-grandkids.

She is survived by her children, Shon Fagan, Bryan Fagan, DeeDee Welker, and Cherie Morse; stepchildren, Mitch Fagan and Gail Yerbic; a sister, Hilda Benge; grandchildren, Brandy, Jessica, Myranda, Max, Maycee, Haley, Hunter, Lyndsey, Greg, Victor, Darren, Renae, and Cameron; great-grandchildren; Ellie, Penelope, Warren, Dayton, Keyenna, Race, Hazel, and Beringer.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Ossian and Edith Alexander; her husband, John; a stepson, Greg Fagan; and a brother, Dick Alexander.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 1, 2024 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. Family will be present to greet friends one hour prior, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Madison County.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Nancy Fagan Memorial at American State Bank, Winterset.
