Maximus Gerald Lee Marshman, was born in Des Moines, IA, on February 26, 2004. He lived most of his life in Patterson, but currently was a resident of Indianola, Iowa. Max passed away unexpectedly on September 12, 2023 at his home. He was 19 years old.

He was known for his quick wit, brilliant mind, and the warmth of his sprit. The great stoic philosopher Marcus Aurelius once said, “Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.” Max proved his mentor's words by living them.

Max had many diverse interests and hobbies that ranged from playing Dungeons and Dragons to boxing, drawing, and playing chess.

He reveled in music, his tastes ranging wildly from Metallica to folk music and sea shanties. Max also had a deep-rooted love for studying religion and philosophy. Passionate about the teachings of stoics, he often engaged in enlightening conversations that showcased his talent for debate and rational thought.

He also enjoyed learning German, and was a loyal fan of the Pittsburg Penguins Hockey Team and The Des Moines Buccaneers.

Max was a high school graduate who aspired to serve his country in the armed forces, demonstrating dedication and love for his homeland.

Max’s love for his family was profound and enduring, which also included an unbreakable bond with his dog, Kaiser, who was his constant companion.

Maximus is survived by his father Joshawa (Melissa Chagoyan) Marshman, mother; Wendy (Jeff) Willey, half-siblings; Hillary (Matt) Vrieze, Scott and Thomas Stewart, step siblings; Sonya Donnelly and Misty Fitch, Grandparents; Steve and Leslie Marshman and Judy Burdess and nephew; Benjamin Vrieze.

Public visitation will be held from 2 pm until 4 pm on Saturday September, 16, located at Peterson's Funeral Home (602 E. Salem Ave. Indianola, Iowa 50125). Cremation will follow visitation, and private family burial of the urn will follow at a later time.
