Vera Lee Golightly

Vera Lee Golightly, 89, of Van Meter, died Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 14, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church near Van Meter with burial to follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or Spurgeon Manor, Dallas Center.

Vera Lee Jamison was born July 10, 1934 in Madison County, Iowa, the daughter of Lee and Henrietta W.E. (Lenz) Jamison. She graduated from Van Meter High School in 1952. She married Dale Golightly on June 19, 1955 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Van Meter.

Vera was a dedicated homemaker and farmwife. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where she sang in the church choir and was a member of the Mary & Martha group. She was also a 4-H leader and a member of Farm Bureau. She enjoyed volunteering at voting polls as a poll worker and was a former secretary for the Lee Township School before the merger. Vera enjoyed playing cards and buying and selling at flea markets. She collected Cracker Jack toys and was a member of the National Cracker Jack Club. Above all else, Vera cherished spending time with family.

Vera is survived by her four children, Brad (Shelly) Golightly of Perry, Randy (Anna) Golightly of Van Meter, Dan (Michelle) Golightly of Booneville, and Jean (J.R.) Hall of Urbandale; brother, Darrell Jamison; six grandchildren, Jana Ferguson, Austin (Brittney) Golightly, Karlee Golightly, Jason (Angela) Mickelson, Nathan Mickelson, and Shiloh Golightly; five great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Henrietta Jamison and a grandson, Bret Golightly.
