St. Charles - Carroll Hayden age 86, went to be with his Heavenly Father July 27, 2023 at Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born March 8, 1937 to Walter and Myrtle Hayden in Osceola, Iowa.

Carroll was a graduate of St. Charles High School, earned a B.S. Degree from Tarkio College in Missouri, and an M.A. Degree at Northeast Missouri State University. He was involved in the sports of baseball and basketball in high school and football, basketball and track in college. Carroll was a physical education and driver education teacher in the Interstate 35 Community School for 36 years, coaching for 16 of those years, and was the home varsity football announcer for 49 years, in later years with his wife Kay by his side. He was proud to be selected to the Tarkio College Athletic Hall of Fame, and the Interstate 35 Wall of Pride. Carroll’s priorities in life were his God, his family, and his country, serving his state and country for six years in the Iowa Army National Guard.

On October 11, 1963 Carroll married the love of his life, Helen Kay Martin, and to this union a son Clay, and daughter Carla were born. Carroll and Kay were married for 56 years. He was especially proud of Kay, his kids, grandchildren and great grandchild.

Participation and coaching sports played an important part of Carroll’s life. He enjoyed spending time in the timber cutting wood, tinkering with his various vehicles, but most importantly being with family on many camping trips and other activities.Carroll was a member of the St. Charles Parish, taught Adult Sunday School classes for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kay, parents and brother Dick. He is survived by Son Clay (Becky) Hayden of Olean, Missouri, daughter Carla (Don) May of Osceola, Iowa, and grandchildren Leslie, Jill and Jack Hayden, Maddy and Lauren Mickle, and David (Gavin) May, Dustin May, Delaney (Connor) Mahan and great grandchild Madden Mahan.

Family will greet friends at a visitation at Kale Funeral Home Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm Funeral services will be on July 31 at 10:00 am at St. Charles Parish with Burial at the St. Charles Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given in Carroll’s memory to the St. Charles Parish.
