Earlham

Mrs. Catherine Hopkins, mother of J. A. Hopkins, died Friday, March 28. Had she lived until April 10 she would have been 100 years old.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her son, James A. Hopkins of Earlham; two daughters, Mrs. Blanche Harlin of Fullerton, Nebr, and Maude Shae of Kansas City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, 22 great great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild. One child preceded her in death in 1894.

Short funeral services were held at the Welch funeral home with Rev. Latta in charge. Interment at Villisca, Ia.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. Lulu Miller, Mrs. Emma Pease and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Houkins of Marshalltown and Mrs. and Mrs. Hershel Combs of Des Moines.

Obituaries – Mrs. Catherine Hopkins

Mrs. Catherine Hopkins, mother of J. A. Hopkins of Earlham, died Friday, March 28. Had she lived but a few days longer she would’ve celebrated her 100th birthday.

Catherine Margaret Longstreth was born at Porterville, Ohio, April 10, 1841, and died at the home of Mrs. Pearl Briggs in Earlham. She was 99 years, 11 months in 18 days. She was married to look B. Hopkins the 30th day of July, 1869. He departed November 14, 1927. To this union four children were born and the first child proceeded them in death Nov. 23, 1894.

She leaves James A. Hopkins of Earlham; Mrs. Blanche Harlin of Fullerton, Nebr.; Maude Shea of Kansas City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great great grandchildren.

Short funeral services were held at the Welch funeral home with Rev. Cecil Latta conducting services. She was taken to Villisca for burial.

Transcriber's note: Of the many vital records available, they were equally divided between "Catherine" and "Katherine" for her first name and there was no clear choice.
