ROBERT M. GOSHORN DIES IN CALIFORNIA

Former Nebraska and Montana Publisher. Lived Here When Young Man

Robert M. Goshorn, former Nebraska and Montana publisher, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. H. Vaughan, in Lomita, California, early Sunday morning. He was 81 years old.

He was born in 1855 at Morning Sun, Iowa. His parents, John Stuart Goshorn, pioneer Winterset school teacher, and Hettie Jane Stiffler Goshorn, moved to Winterset the following year. He finished the course of study in 1873 in the Winterset schools under Supt. Preston and entered the State University of Iowa that fall, graduating in 1877.

He was teacher of the eighth grade of the Winterset schools under Prof. Mowatt for two years and was admitted to the bar in 1882, becoming a partner of Judge Mott.

The following year he formed a partnership with Ben Adams of Stuart and when the firm acquired both Stuart newspapers, Mr. Goshorn took one of the plants and established The Herald at Wayne, Nebraska.

Appointed clerk of the United States federal court of New Mexico a few years later, her served until the death of his wife, Ella Ford Goshorn, daughter of W. T. Ford of Earlham, resigning to go to Kalispell, Montana, where he purchased the Daily Interlake, which he owned until a few years ago when he retired.

While living in Kalispell he was commissioner of the United States Land Office for northwest Montana several years. He later married Miss Alice Heath of Manchester, Iowa, who died several years ago.

He leaves his daughter, Mrs. Vaughan, and his brother, Arthur Goshorn of Winterset. His only son, Jo, was drowned while a student at Leland Stanford University of California. Two sisters, Mrs. Laura Hudson and Nell Paxson are deceased. Services were held Tuesday at Lomita.
