The neighborhood was greatly shocked to learn of the death of one of their most esteemed friends and neighbors, Carl Hurt. He died at Winterset hospital June 10 after a week’s illness of pneumonia.
He was born in Madison county June 14, 1880 where he spent most of his life. He was married in 1903 and lived in Oklahoma for several years. On moving back to Iowa he lived in the Barney community for some time and fifteen years ago to Monroe township.
He is survived by his wife, three children and one grandson. Glen, who is at home, Walter and Allie Winkler and grandson Billy, Jr., Alfred, another child, died in infancy. He will be greatly missed in the neighborhood as well as the home.
Services were held Saturday afternoon at Methodist church at Lorimor conducted by Rev. Thompson; burial was in the Lorimor cemetery.
