Daniel Howell McCauley, 67, of New Bern, N.C., passed away quietly on Thursday, March 30, 2023. He had endured two hard years of cancer treatments that had greatly diminished his health and overtook him in the end. Daniel was born Dec. 31, 1955, in Winterset to Dick and Patricia Howell McCauley, and had three sisters, Andria, Susan, and Pamela, (now deceased). Daniel grew up in Carlisle, Guam Hawaii, California, and attended one year of school in Winterset.

He eventually moved to North Carolina with his wife, Jennifer, and children, Drayton and Breezy.

Daniel was a big guy with a big personality. He was talented at many things, and loved cooking wonderful tasty meals for his family and friends. He was generous with everything and loved to crack jokes all the time to make people laugh. He was a free spirit and always the life of the party.

He was a wonderful fun father to Drayton and Breeze and gave them a great childhood to remember. He will be missed everyday and will live on in the hearts and minds of all who loved him.

Services for him will be held privately by his family at a later date.
