Margaret “Jean” Baker, age 93, joined family and friends in Heaven peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, March 25, 2023 due to natural causes.

Jean was born October 15, 1929 in Zion, Iowa to Ernest and Merle “Green” Kuhns. She married John O. Baker in October of 1946. Jean and John had three daughters, Kerry, Vicky, and Marty. They spent many years following all of their music and sports activities.

For many years Jean worked at various jobs. She worked at Allgeyer Grocery, Look Magazine, Iowa Check Processing, and Union State Bank. Her life was a living example of a favorite Bible verse, John 10:10 - “I came so that they could have life - indeed, so that they could have life to the fullest.” She was always available to lend a helping hand to her family and friends. She lived her life to the fullest.

Jean is survived by her two daughters, Kerry (Rod) Chase and Marty (Duane) Stowell. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Chad (Mindy) Chase, Heather Bingaman, Angel (Josh) Melvin, Justin Givan (friend William), Nikki Givan, and Dylan Stowell. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren, Karlee, Paige, and Sam Chase, Breanne, Savannah, Jaden, and Jobe Bingaman, and Tucker (Annaliesa) and MacKenzie Melvin. Jean recently welcomed a great great-grandson, Avery Scott Melvin. She is also survived by one brother, Robert (Patty) Kuhns, and by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, John O. Baker; her daughter, Vicky Sue Givan; her sister, Blanche Saunders; her brothers, Harold Kuhns, Lester Kuhns, Ralph Kuhns, and Russell Kuhns; and grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Please join us celebrating her life Saturday afternoon, April 1, 2023 at Caldwell Parish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel (1823 N. John Wayne Drive, Winterset, Iowa 50273). A visitation will held at 1:00 p.m. and a memorial service will follow, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow the service. A private family burial will be at the Winterset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at lls.org.
