Nancy Eleanor Spurgin was born June 20 , 1849 in Warren county and died February 27, aged 85 years, 8 months and 7 days. She was the daughter of Philip and Margaret Spurgin.
She was married in January 1876 to John W. Ellis who died October 8, 1922. They lived for a short time in Winterset before going to their farm home in Union county which was their home for twelve years, when they moved to Afton which place had since been their home.
She was converted and joined the Baptist church when a young girl and had since lived a consistent Christian life. She leaves a brother, S. L. Spurgin of Caldwell, Idaho; a sister, Mrs. Martha Harrell, and brother-in-law, Joe S. Harrell of Peru, a number of nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held in Afton at 2:30 at the Methodist church, Rev. Boach of the Methodist church officiating. Pallbearers were C. E. Spurgin, John Stalcup, Frank Neidt, Phillip Irvin, James Stalcup, and Joe Utsler.
______________________Transcriber's notes: Per her Iowa death certificate, she died in the state hospital at Clarinda. She appeared in Madison County Censuses in 1850, 1860, 1885 & 1895.
