Russell Henry of Winterset passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at home, surrounded by family and his friends from Home Instead.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 21, 2023 with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. Funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at the Winterset Community Church. Burial will follow in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be donated to EveryStep Hospice, and/or to the family for a future designation. Online condolences may be left for the family at caldwellparrish.com.

Russell Travis Henry was born June 27, 1939 to Edwin Earnest Henry and Ruth (Travis) Henry on the family homestead south of Earlham. He graduated from Winterset High School in May of 1958 and then went on to Iowa State Teacher’s College (now known as UNI) in Cedar Falls to become a coach and play football. Russ later transferred to Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, MO. His football career was cut short due to a concussion that he suffered his senior year of high school.

He married Mary Jane Buck of Winterset on June 1, 1958 where they made their lifetime home. They were blessed with three sons, Russell T. Henry Jr., Rory L. Henry and Randall L. Henry.

He was active in his community and coached Winterset Little League baseball for nine years. He was a member of the Madison County Sportsman’s Club and Winterset Saddle Club.

He was first employed by the Madison County Secondary Roads Department before becoming a carpenter with the Carpenters Local Union 106 where he retired in 1998 at the age of 58. He also was a horse farrier for many years. Shoeing horses throughout Madison County.

Russell Henry passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at home, surrounded by family and his friends from Home Instead.

Left to celebrate his memory are his wife, Jane Henry; sons, Russell Jr. (Teresa), Rory (Angela), Randy (Paige); seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Henry and a host of friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Ruth Henry; and brothers Carl and Edwin Henry.
