March 2023Luann Marie Overton, daughter of James Thomas and Marie Lenore (Baker) Triplett, was born on July 28th, 1938 in Pomeroy, IA and passed from this life suddenly in a car accident near Parker, AZ on March 1, 2023 at the age of 84.
After graduation from high school, she attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA where she studied business. She excelled at a variety of jobs in accounting and administration in Iowa, California, and Georgia.
She was united in marriage to Donald James Overton on August 4, 1973 in Des Moines, IA. They eventually settled on their farm in St. Charles, IA and started several businesses, including Overton Feed and Equipment. While Don provided the entrepreneurial inspiration, she ‘kept him in check’ with her bookkeeping skills.
Family and friends were her greatest joy. She had a wide social circle and was very connected to her community. She particularly enjoyed her Saturday breakfast group in Bevington and coffee klatch at the pharmacy in St. Charles. She was a dedicated member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. She and Don ran the Lions Club Bingo table alongside their good friends Larry and Janet Adair during the annual St. Charles Old Settlers Days celebrations. At home, she enjoyed doing word Jumbles, listening to Christian music, and binge watching shows such as Blue Bloods and The Chosen.
She did not know a stranger and was always jumping in to serve others, including cooking for her family and church during holidays and special events. No one would go hungry in her presence. For the last ten years, she spent the coldest months in Sun City West, AZ where she enjoyed the change of pace but was always anxious to return to friends in Iowa.
Those relatives who preceded Luann in death were her husband of over 45 years Donald Overton, mother and father James and Marie, step-son Mike Overton, sister Mary Genevieve Triplett, and brothers Joseph, Thomas, Lawrence, and Michael.
Luann leaves behind many who loved her dearly. She is survived by her sons Wayne (Angie) Bedford of St. Charles, IA and Fort Mill, SC, Curt (Kelly) Bedford of San Antonio, TX, Ron (Esther) Bedford of Sun City West, AZ; step-son Bill Overton of Missouri; siblings James (Zola) Triplett of Tulsa, OK and Richard (Margarida) Triplett of Westport, MA; sisters-in-law Millie Triplett and Jeanne Triplett; grandchildren Casey (Josh) Spoelstra of Murray, IA, Denver (Dalli) Overton of Osceola, IA, Sydney (Pete) Bedford-Cabrera of San Antonio, TX, Hannah (Marco Pineda) Bedford of Denver, CO, Alyssa (Logan) Anderson of Windsor Heights, IA, Nick Bedford of West Des Moines, IA, and Abigail Bedford of Fort Mill, SC; and great-grandchildren Penelope Bedford-Cabrera of San Antonia, TX, Khloe, Blake, and Ethan Spoelstra of Murray, IA, and Newt James Overton of Osceola, IA, as well as other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be Monday March 13th at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys on Tuesday March 14th. Specific times are to be determined.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Charles Lions Club.
