February 2023

Edward Leon Stroeber, the eldest of three children born to Edward W. and Elva L. (Forsyth) Stroeber was born June 5, 1941 at his grandmother’s home in Madison county, Iowa. Ed attended grade school at Arispe and Macksburg. He then attended Adel High School where he met the love of his life, Judith E. Ramsey. They were married 51 years.

From childhood through adulthood, Ed could be characterized as affable, giving, hardworking and even in his younger days as a hell-raiser. He loved a joke and a good laugh. While still in high school and working at his dad’s filling station, he made sure he hung out at the public library just down the street where he would regularly find his future bride Judy studying. Although Ed was not much of a bookworm, he spent many afternoons in the library to “catch the eye of that pretty little red head” and they were united in marriage on June 28, 1959. The high school sweethearts started their life together as farmers in the Winterset and Waukee area while raising their four daughters, Kathleen, Susan, Joanne and Linda. Ed and Judy farmed for 15 years before moving to Adel, where he started Stroeber Repair Service. Ed had a mechanical mind and would try his hand at any car problem, even making his own tools when necessary. He enjoyed working with his hands and always helped his daughters with their home improvement projects. Although he was a diligent mechanic, he was always a farmer at heart, caring for livestock and excelling at gardening.

Ed is survived by his sister Janet (Jim) Shelby: sister-in-law Donna Adamson; four daughters Kathy (Earnest) Mack, Susan Stroeber, Joanne (Cara) Stroeber and Linda Stroeber; four granddaughters; ten great grandchildren and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy, brother Ray, brother-in-law Merle Adamson and nephew Michael Adamson.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Monday February 20, 2023 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home - McCalley Chapel. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Panther Creek Cemetery west of Adel.
