Bernal Bumbarger, 90, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, February 11, 2023. A private graveside memorial will be held at the Winterset Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family for a future designation.

Bernal Gene Bumbarger was born in Osceola, Iowa on April 21, 1932, was the son of Wayne and Dot (Thompson) Bumbarger. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1951 and served in the United States Air Force. He was united in marriage to Betty Haymond on December 24, 1952.

Bernal was a lifetime resident of Winterset. He worked for Crescent Chevrolet for many years as an auto body painter. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Winterset and was involved with the motorcycle club, Covered Bridge Cruisers.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Bumbarger; his son, Dennis Bumbarger; two grandchildren, Angela (Bumbarger) Lahr and Andrea (Bumbarger) Reynolds; and six great-grandchildren, Kayden Lahr, Bradley Lahr, Hunter Reynolds, Bentley Reynolds, Penelope Adams, and Avery Calderon.

Bernal was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Dot (Thompson) Bumbarger; brother, Russell Bumbarger; and sister, Joyce Bumbarger.
