MRS. WILLIAM IIAMS DIES AT MACKSBURG

Funeral Services Were Held Monday From Methodist Church

Mrs. William Iiams, long-time resident of the Macksburg community, died at her home there last Saturday. She was 74 years of age.

Mrs. Iiams was born as Phoebe Jane Noah, daughter of Andrew and Sarah Noah, at Carthage, Ind., on Jan. 13, 1864. She was left an orphan at the age of three months and was reared by an aunt and uncle, John and Margaret Wilson, in Marion county, Ia.

She united with the United Brethren church at an early age, and later transferred her membership to the Baptist church, with which she was affiliated at the time of her death. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge and the Woman's Relief corps.

On Sept. 29, 1878, she was married to Henry A. Cross. He was a Baptist minister in Macksburg for seven years, and died July 30, 1918. They were the parents of seven children. Three of them, Gertie H. Cross, Mrs. Nannie M. Bishop, and Mrs. Joy Herrin, preceded their mother in death.

On Oct. 17, 1929, she was married to William Iiams of Macksburg.

She is survived by one son, Henry A. Cross of Waterloo, three daughters, Mrs. Francis Gilbert of Indianola, Mrs. Bessie Figgins of Somers, and Mrs. Margaret Hickox of Los Angeles, Cal., two foster sisters, Nellie Etcher of Knoxville and Ione Allen of Lovilla, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted from the Macksburg Methodist church Monday by the Rev. Harold Noah of Creston. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
