Des Moines, IowaLarry Rex Letz, 86, of Waukee, IA, formerly from Spencer, IA, passed away January 9, 2023.
Larry was born November 30, 1936 in rural Dallas County to Donald and Mildred (White) Letz. He graduated from Earlham High School in 1954. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and served two years in Germany.
Larry married the love of his life, Wilma Marie Carlson January 2, 1959. They were blessed with daughters Talene (Talli) Marie and Tina MiAnn. They lived in Spencer from 1970-2015 and then moved to the Des Moines area.
Larry had a successful career in the telecommunications industry with Northwestern Bell. He started as a lineman in 1957 and retired from management in 1986. He and Wilma then purchased and operated National Box & Display in Spencer for 17 years.
Larry was involved in his community through Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce and was a charter member of the American Legion Riders, Spencer Post 1.
His interests included collecting and restoring antique scooters, motorcycles and cars. He also enjoyed boating, snowmobiling and annual fishing trips.
Larry is survived by daughters, Talli (Greg) Breuer and Tina (Tim) Jensen; grandchildren, Hethe (Sabina) Breuer, Andrea (Mitch) Seiberling, Evan (Abi) Breuer, and Zach (Denise) Jensen; great grandchildren, Roux, Coco, Sulton, Eli, Owen, Everly, Crew, Calvin, Emerson, Aiden and Nash; sister Margaret (Mike) Caskey; along with many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Legion Riders Post 1, 2320 Hwy Blvd, Spencer, IA 51301.
Burial of cremated remains at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, rural Adel, Iowa.
