Services for Helen Estella Camp Armstrong, 100, of Indianola, Iowa, who passed away Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Norwalk Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Norwalk, IA, will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at the Indianola First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church. Burial will follow services in the St. Charles Cemetery.

Helen, the third child and eldest daughter, of Harvey and Dorothy Martin Camp was born August 13, 1922 in Clarke County, Iowa. She attended rural schools in Clarke and Madison Counties graduating in 1940 from Patterson High School. While continuing her education, she taught in several rural Madison County schools, Saint Charles Consolidated School, and Interstate 35 Community School. During this time, she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Drake University.

On September 6, 1946 Helen was united in marriage to Jesse Armstrong. They became the parents of two children, Rex and Kay. Jess and Helen lived in Saint Charles from 1946 until 1984 when they moved to Indianola. Helen was a member of Indianola First United Methodist Church and always active in women’s church circles in both Indianola and Saint Charles. Helen treasured time spent with her family, her friends, co-workers, and members of her church circles.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Jess; her parents; brothers Marvin and wife Gladyne, Marion and wife Becky, Robert and wife Mary, and Dan; sisters, Evelyn, Marilyn Jane, and Mary Nadine. Her husband’s parents, Albert and Nora Armstrong, as well as Jess’s siblings and their spouses also preceded her in death.

Helen is survived by her son Rex Armstrong and wife Carma of Indianola, daughter Kay Boden and husband Paul of Creston; four grandsons Jason Henle (Mariha), Chris Boden (Roxane), Scott Armstrong (Lacey), and Adam Boden (Brooke); fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandsons. She is also survived by her brother Glenn Camp and wife Diana of North Ft. Myers, Florida, and sister-in-law Phyllis Camp of Gilbert, Arizona as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Her family would like to express our appreciation to the staffs at Windsor Manor and Norwalk Nursing & Rehabilitation for the care and attention she received as well as her friends who visited, called, and wrote to her during her retirement years.
