November 2015Norman Elmer Swensen, 88, of Nevada passed away November 10, 2015 at Mary Greeley Medical Center. A gathering of friends and family will be 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2015 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way in Ames with a celebration of life memorial service starting at 6:00 p.m.
Norman was born September 8, 1927 in Earlham, Iowa, the son of Walter and Inger Marie Swensen. The family moved to Ames when he was two. He graduated from Ames High School in 1945. Norman met Agnes Ann Kaprich and the couple married on November 17, 1951.
He was drafted in World War II and later served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. Norman spent many years farming south of Nevada. He was a member of the American Legion Post #48 and Memorial Lutheran Church of Nevada.
Norman is survived by his wife, Agnes, children, David (Victoria) Swensen and Dr. Marjorie (Chuck) Gill, son-in-law, Don McMillen, 3 grandsons; Donald J. (Wendy) McMillen Jr., Rob (Teresa) McMillen, and Benjamin Claxton, 5 great-grandchildren; D.J. McMillen III, Andrew McMillen, Lauren Ann McMillen, Margo Rae McMillen, and Nina Leah McMillen, and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia McMillen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project or Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
