Former Madison County Man Killed in Dexter by Steer
John Gordon, son of Samuel Gordon, who lived for years in Lincoln township, was killed in Dexter Monday of last week. Gordon grew to manhood in this county and had many relatives here.
The Dexter Sentinel says:
J. M. Gordon, a prominent Dexter citizen and well known stockman, was injured Monday night in the stock yards while assisting in loading some cattle from which injury he died at his home Tuesday noon. He and other stockmen were assisting Lloyd Speer in cutting out some western steers and one of them, in trying to escape, plunged into Mr. Gordon knocking him to the ground striking the back of his head on a rock.
His associates rushed to his assistance and after regaining his feet said he was feeling better. Fred Morford volunteered to get a conveyance to take him home, and not realizing the extent of his injuries the other men resumed their work, and not until Morford and Frank Spatz returned to the yards and found Mr. Gordon unconscious was his injury considered serious.
He was removed to his home at once, and the physician’s diagnosis was hemorrhage of the brain. He never regained consciousness but grew weaker and weaker until Tuesday noon when he quietly passed away.
