Neva was born on a rainy day on September 8, 1935. She was the second child of eight, born to Carlos McCollum and Vera Lorene (Kirk) Rauer at their home in Linn County, Missouri. She passed from this life, surrounded by her loving family on October 19, 2022 at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

She began her education in the Plum Grove country school in 1941. She later attended the Laclede Public School and graduated in 1954 from Linneus Public School, which were all in Linn County, Missouri. During her high school years she participated and excelled in basketball, back when they played half court and threw underhanded with two hands as it wasn't proper to throw like a man. After graduation, she was employed by the Linneus Public School as the school secretary. In August of 1955, she moved to Des Moines, Iowa and was employed by General Motors Acceptance Corporation.

Neva was united in marriage to Thomas Dwight Cunningham on November 22, 1958 in Marceline, Missouri and two children, Thomas II and Kristen J. blessed this union. Thomas said that she is the most wonderful person he has ever known!

In 1959, soon after their marriage, Neva and Thomas moved to the farm near St. Charles, Iowa and have resided and have lived on a farm ever since. In 1981, Neva was employed by Union State Bank and retired from there in 2000. Neva enjoyed reading, bike riding and most of all family get-together's. Neva was a member of the local garden club in St. Charles and also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in St. Charles and Indianola.

Those relatives who preceded Neva in death were her parents; brother, Larry (Bo) Rauer and her son, Thomas Cunningham, II; brothers-in-law, Irv Barron, Richard Gibson and Gary Bates; sisters-in-law, Sabrina and Alice Rauer.

Neva is survived by her husband, Thomas D. Cunningham, daughter, Kristen Cunningham both of St. Charles, Iowa; grandchildren, Tanner Miller of St. Charles, IA, Tara (Miller) Thilking and husband Clint of Napoleon, MO, Tawnee (Miller) Lundy and husband Ted of Greenfield, IA; five great-grandchildren, Jasper, Vada and Hayden Miller and Grant and Creedence Lundy. Also surviving are her sisters, June Barron of Altoona, IA, Connie Rauer of Kansas City, MO, Donna Gibson of Chilicothe, MO, Janet Bates of Osceola, MO and Terry Murphy and husband Cliff of Kingsville, MO; and brother, Jon Michael Rauer of Platwoods, MO as well as many nieces, nephew other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles, Iowa, Thursday October 27, 2022 at 11:00 am with Pastor Doug Helton officiating.

Visitation will open after 12 noon Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa and the family will greet friends from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the funeral home. Order of the Eastern Star services will begin at 5:00 P.M.

Interment will be in the St. Charles Cemetery, St. Charles, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Charles and Truro Fire Departments and EMS.
