Obituary

Elizabeth Adams Pace, daughter of Thomas and Nancy Pace, was born in Fluvanna county, Virginia, July 3rd, 1833, and died in Leon, Iowa, July 25th, 1911, at 2:10 p.m.at the home of her niece, Mrs. Emma Pace Crouse.

In 1851 she was united in marriage to Robert Ward in Highland county, Ohio. Two daughters preceded her to the grave, Mrs. T. B. McCready of Cainsville, Missouri, and Mrs. P. B. Tarbell of Winterset, Iowa. Two brothers, George O. Pace of Winterset, and Wm. Pace of Leon, nine nephews, five nieces, sister-in-law and her sons-in-law survived to mourn.

She came with her parents to Iowa among the early settlers of Madison county and enjoyed a large circle of friends in both Madison and Decatur counties. She was a kind and loving mother, a faithful loyal friend and those who knew her best loved her most.

The remains were brought to Winterset July 26th and funeral held July 27th at the home of P. B. Tarbell. Interment in Clarke county cemetery beside her two daughters. Rev. Stewart of the Baptist church officiated.

Coordinator's note: Of the two sisters mentioned, only Mrs. Tarbell has a gravestone and that is in the Clark Cemetery, Madison County, Iowa.
