Lillian Mae Dennis Hougham passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on March 5, 2018 at Eudora Medical lodge, Eudora, KS. A memorial Service was held at the DeSoto Baptist Church in DeSoto, KS.

Lillian was born to Raymond & Lillian Williams on December 16, 1923 in St. Louis, MO. This marriage ended and when she was 2, her older brother, Raymond, mother and step-father, Willie 'Sarge' Dennis moved to Fort Des Moines Army Post, IA. The next assignment moved them to Fort Riley, KS, where she graduated from Junction City Sr. High in May 1942.

Her adventurous spirit became apparent as she participated in the archery club, tennis, swimming, Girl Cadets, horseback riding and the Camera Club. She demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility during her school years with various jobs to earn money including house cleaning, baby sitting, delivering newspapers, church office secretary and working at Post Exchange. She was a member of the Fort Riley Main Post Chapel congregation.

In the early days of WWII she went on an adventure traveling to AZ and CA and then she returned to Fort Des Moines in 1943 where her step-father had been reassigned. She met and married her first husband Navy Air Cadet Bruce Pass, in November 1944. To this union her first child, Pamela, was born. She later divorced and married Howard 'Dutch' Hougham in June 1947, in Kansas City, KS. In due time Pamela had 3 brothers, Gerry Wayne, Robert 'Bob' and Dennis. The family then moved to Earlham, IA ,and then to DeSoto, KS, in 1958 , where most of the family still resides.

She was patriotic and proud to display the flag of the USA and proud of family that served in the USA military. She was a devoted homemaker.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Lillian Dennis, her husband, Howard Hougham, brothers Raymond and Roland, infant son Daryl Paul and son Gerry Wayne. Survivors include her sister Betty Stoner of Perry, IA, daughter Pamela (Jerry) of Baldwin City, KS, son Robert (Gay) Hougham of Lenexa, KS, son Dennis (Deborah) Hougham of DeSoto, KS, 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

There will be a private burial ceremony at Fort Riley Post Cemetery at a later date.

Transcriber’s note: In checking Forth Riley Post Cemetery records, nothing was mentioned for Lillian. She has a gravestone at Earlham Cemetery, Earlham, Iowa, where it has been engraved with her death date.
