Raymond Manuel Mur, born on February 22, 1930, to Manuel Mur and Montserat Teresa Cos in Brignon, France, passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2022, with Vera, his wife of 53 years, by his side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 4, 2022 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (510 E. 1st St.). Visitation will be held an hour prior to Mass.

Ray came to the US in 1949 and joined the Army in 1951, proudly served in Alaska during the Korean War.  Ray enrolled at Drake University in 1954 and graduated with honors in 1957 with a degree in Business Administration.  After graduation, he was recruited by Bankers Life Company (now The Principal Financial Group), and after 35 years, retired as Second Vice President of Pensions.

Ray loved traveling and spending time with the kids and grandkids. He was also very involved in the community volunteering at Living History Farms, working with the SBA, American Legion, and Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Vera; five children, Mike of Phoenix, AZ, Cindy (Robert Wilson) of San Diego, CA, Marc (Jasmine) of Phoenix, AZ,  Michelle Hoile (Bob) of Des Moines, IA, and Chris (Molly Kasch) of Redondo Beach, CA; six grandchildren, Lisa, Christopher, Logan, Eric, Brayden and Brooke; three great-grandchildren, Jude, Jeremiah, and Jenna; niece, Marie Mahaffey; and nephews, Marc and Joe Langer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marie Langer; great-granddaughter, Virginia; and many other dear family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, Boys Town, the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, or the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
