Missing in Action

Mr. and Mrs. John Linnane of near Bevington received word from the War Department last week their son T/Sgt. John J. Linnane, had been missing in action since December 23. Sgt. Linnane was serving with the First Army in Belgium and had been in service nearly three years.

John Linnane, Jr. Reported Killed

Pfc. John Linnane, Jr. of Bevington, who had been reported missing in action on the western European front since Dec. 23. is now officially reported to have been killed in action, according to a telegram from the War department received by his parents last week.

Private Linnane was the only son of Mr. and Mr. John Linnane, Sr. of Bevington. He was born and spent all his life in that community. He had been serving with an armored division on the western front.

John J. Linnane Funeral Thursday

Funeral for T/Sgt. John J. Linnane, Jr., of Bevington, Ia., will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Assumption church at Churchville. Burial will be at Churchville.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Linnane of Bevington, he was killed Dec. 23, 1944, in the Battle of the Bulge. He had been buried in Henri Chapelle cemetery in Belgium. He had served wit the 3rd Armored Division and was inducted in January, 1942.

The body will arrive at 6:30 a.m. today and will be at the Linnane home until time of the funeral.
