Dr. Lawrence E. Ragan, 83, of Mitchellville, died Saturday at the Wyndcrest Nursing Home in Clinton after a one-month illness.
Born in Winterset, Dr. Ragan was a practicing veterinarian in Mitchellville since 1917, when he graduated from the Chicago Veterinary College. He retired eight years ago.
He was a member of the Iowa and American Veterinary Medical Associations, Crystal Masonic Lodge, IOOF Lodge 363, Garcia Rebekah Lodge 425 and the Mitchellville Christian Church.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Mitchellville Christian Church, with burial at the Mitchellville Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Amy Cline.
Survivors include two sons, G. Lawrence Ragan of Clinton, and Willard C. Ragan of St. Louis, Mo.; five daughters, Mrs. Kenneth E. Hibbs, Mrs. Harold D. Nelson and Mrs. Charles D. Rowley, all of Des Moines; Mrs. Peter F. Brodersen of Wyoming and Mrs. Everett Nordhus of McGregor; a brother, Benjamin F. Ragan of Winterset; 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
