Creston, IowaKenneth Loomis, 92, of Afton, died Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the Crest Haven Care Centre in Creston.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Avenue in Creston. Pastor Jim Morris will officiate.
Services will be livestreamed with the link available at powersfh.com under the Events section.
Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery of Winterset.
Open visitation will be from 2 - 7 p.m. Monday with family receiving friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Monday at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to be determined. Online condolences may be made at powersfh.com.
Kenneth Walter Loomis, son of Walter F. Loomis and Grace (Adcock) Loomis, was born on December 1, 1929 near Winterset, Iowa. He graduated from Lorimor High School in 1947. Kenneth invested in a tractor and began farm work.
On September 5, 1954, Kenneth married Shirley Ann Harpole at the Methodist Church in Winterset. They first lived and farmed near Hebron. In 1967, they bought a farm and settled north of Afton. Together, they farmed, planting crops, raising cattle, sheep, hogs and draft horses. Kenneth was also well known in the Draft Horse Association showing horses at multiple State and County Fairs for many years and was inducted into the Iowa State Fair Draft Horse Hall of Fame. Kenneth over the years served as Dodge Township Clerk and on Farmers Electric Board of Greenfield.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years Shirley Loomis of Afton; two sons Steve Loomis and Gary Loomis, both of Afton; grandchildren Brenda (Brandon) Maule of Leander, Texas, Lindsay (Matt) Thelen of Afton and Brett Loomis of Oregon; five great-grandchildren Garrison and Eliana Maule, Eva, Haven and Luke Thelen; a brother Robert (Barbara) Loomis of Afton; a sister Helen (John) Reed of Winterset and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, a son Rodney in 2010 and a sister Clella Burgan.
