Joanne Nichols, 86, of Winterset passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022, at her home.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel, with family present from 5-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 11, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. Burial will take place in the Winterset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the Madison County Service Above Self Foundation to be used for the new all-inclusive playground, EveryStep Hospice, and/or a charity of your choice.

Joanne was born on March 19, 1936, to John and Kathryn (Sullivan) Curran in Monroe County, Iowa. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines in 1954 and was united in marriage to George Nichols on March 27, 1954, in Melrose, Iowa. Over the years, she worked as a District Avon Manager.

Joanne was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. She enjoyed being active in the church along with being a part of the Altar and Rosary Society. Joanne was active in her community, being involved in the John Wayne Museum and giving bus tours for the Madison County Chamber. She was a member of multiple bridge clubs and was quite a good player. Joanne also loved to travel. One of her life’s biggest accomplishments was being able to visit all fifty states and Europe. Overall, she loved all of her grandchildren and spending time with her family.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, John and Kate Curran; sister, Donna (Bernard) Fitzgerald; and brother-in-law, Fred Billick.

She is survived by her children, Ed (Mary) Nichols, Steve (Leslie) Nichols, Tim (Sheryl) Nichols, and Vicki (Russ) Roberts; sister, Sheila Curran-Billick; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
