Patrick James McFarland of Leawood, Kansas passed away suddenly on Monday, March 21, 2022, at the age of 42.

Patrick was born on September 8, 1979, to Cathy and Paul McFarland in Des Moines, Iowa. Patrick was a star athlete and well-loved graduate of the Wayne Community high school class of 1998. Patrick remained in his beloved home state after high school graduation, attending the University of Iowa where he studied finance. At the University of Iowa, Patrick developed lifelong bonds with his Sigma Phi Epsilon brothers and met his future wife, Tiffany (Buban) McFarland.

After graduating in 2002, Patrick moved to Kansas City where he began his financial career and married Tiffany on October 18, 2008. In due course, Patrick and Tiffany set up house in Johnson County, Kansas and became the proud parents of two exuberant and loving little boys, Benjamin (8) and Nicholas (5).

An ardent Iowa Hawkeye, Patrick was gifted at finding an “Iowa connection” with everyone he met. Patrick will be remembered as approachable and curious, knowledgeable about the community and consummately interested in other people. Although Patrick took great joy in connecting with other people, he also deeply loved the peace of being alone outdoors. Patrick enjoyed long and happy days at his family farm as well as hunting and fishing with his loyal Labradors, Kate and Avery.

He instilled his love of people, nature and the Iowa Hawkeyes into his boys, and his legacy of kindness will live on in them.

Patrick was predeceased by grandparents Burr and Virginia McFarland and Uncle Leland Pitcock. He is survived by his wife Tiffany, sons Benjamin and Nicholas; parents Paul and Cathy McFarland of Indianola, Iowa; sister Kelly (Chaney) Smith, nephew Carter and niece Kora of Ankeny, Iowa; Grandparents Leonard and Esther Pitcock of Earlham, Iowa; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; his in laws Ted and Roxanne Kraft of Plano, Texas; and many dear friends and family members, as well as his beloved dog Avery. He will forever be in the hearts and missed every day very much.

A memorial service will be held at The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Wesley Chapel on Friday March 25, 2022, at 11:00am.
