Leonard Pitcock

Leonard Pitcock, 91, of Earlham, died at his home on March 30, 2022, surrounded by family.

Family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2022 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 4, at the funeral home with burial and military honors to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Winterset American Legion Hall. Memorials may be directed to the Earlham First Presbyterian Church.

Leonard Dean Pitcock was born February 14, 1931, in Winterset, Iowa to George and Amy (Thrailkill) Pitcock. He started country school in Pitzer, Iowa, and graduated from Winterset High School in 1949. In his youth, he was active in 4-H, FFA, the Iowa State Fair and Aksarben where he enjoyed showing cattle. Leonard served in the US Army from September 1951-September 1953. He was married May 16, 1952, to Esther Ruth Young in Earlham. Esther has been his life-long farm wife and homemaker, always by his side. They are the parents of three children, Marcia Sue, Cathy Ann, and Gary Dean.

After returning home from the Army, Leonard became a life-long farmer northwest of Winterset and enjoyed raising livestock and crop farming for sixty-nine years. Leonard was very active in the community serving on the boards of the Pitzer and Earlham Presbyterian churches, President of the Madison County Fair Board Association, President of the Earlham Cooperative Elevator and served on the Farm Service Agency County committee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Leland and grandson, Patrick McFarland.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Esther Pitcock; daughters, Marcia Pitcock of West Des Moines and Cathy McFarland and husband, Paul of Indianola; son, Gary Pitcock and wife, Sherry of Dallas, TX; granddaughters, Kelly (McFarland) Smith and husband, Chaney of Ankeny, Ashley Pitcock and Rachel Pitcock of Dallas, TX; and four great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Nicholas McFarland of Leawood, KS and Carter and Kora Smith of Ankeny.
