Lyla Hillis

Lyla (Tidrick) Hillis, 89, passed away on Jan. 9, 2022 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Lyla was born in 1932 in Madison County to Mary and Lyle Smith. She was Winterset Homecoming Queen in 1950, and married her high school sweetheart, Dean Tidrick in 1951. Her life's passion and work was an educator.

After Dean's passing, she moved to Texas and later remarried James Hillis. She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; and two older sisters, Betty (Gene) Jones of Elkhart and Bernice (Wally) Spence of Estherville.

She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Scott of Calallen, Texas, and Diane (Bruce) Fryk of Waverly; three grandchildrenm; two great-grandchildren; and her sister, Patricia Kuhns-Howell of Johnston.
