Evalee Waltz, 78, of Winterset, passed away peacefully at Independence Village of Waukee on Monday, January 17, 2022. Private family services are planned.
Evalee Sharon (Thompson) Waltz was born May 25, 1943 in LeMars, Iowa, the daughter of Earl Robert and Esther Mary (Davis) Thompson. She graduated from Hinton High School in Hinton, Iowa in 1961. After high school, she lived in the Sioux City, Iowa area and worked in a blue jeans factory, sewing pockets. She married Jerry Francis Waltz of Winterset, Iowa on August 11, 1962. She did a remarkable thing in 1969 by giving her older sister a kidney while it was still a very experimental procedure.
Evalee lived most of her life in Winterset. She was very talented at sewing, quilting, cooking, wall-papering, and reupholstering. She enjoyed her collections of dolls and bears, her quilt clubs, Child Welfare Club, having coffee with her friends and going to the casino. She volunteered at the Madison County Historical Complex. She worked for many years at Montross Pharmacy in Winterset, making the cinnamon rolls and pies. She also worked with some of her good friends at Fons and Porter Quilting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Esther Thompson; her husband, Jerry; a daughter, Alice Evelyn Reed; her sisters, Estelle and Erlene; and her brother, Errol.
She is survived by her children, Sharon (Kevin) Godwin, Rob (Julie) Waltz, Lori (Ray) Carpenter, and Mark (Sara) Reed; eight grandchildren; sisters, Erma and Kay (Eleanor); and brother, Eldon.
