Attorney Henry Cole Dies at 69

Henry H. Cole, leader of a continuing campaign for home rule in Hillsborough County, died yesterday at his home. 30 Bay Court Ave. The attorney, author of the Cole Report for Reorganization of City-County Government, was 69.

It was from 1956-58 that Mr. Cole outlined proposals for home rule and gained support for them during many civic club talks. Although his particular approach was rejected because of rural opposition during the last legislature, city-county cooperation in planning and tax collection has come about in the interim.

Mr. Cole was a past potentate of the Egypt Temple Shrine, past president of the Southeastern Shrine Association, past wise master of the Tampa Scottish Rite Consistory and past president of the Palma Ceia Kiwams Club. He also was a member of Palma Ceia Lodge 290 F & AM, Knights Templar, Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine and Knight Commander of the Court of Honor, and the Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church.

Veteran of 2 Wars

A veteran of two world wars, he served as an infantry captain in World War I, with the Florida National Guard from 1921-26, and a lieutenant-colonel staff specialist during World War II. He was admitted to law practice in Illinois in 1919 and in Florida in 1920, when he came to Tampa. He was a member of the local, state and national bar associations.

Born July 9, 1891, in Winterset, Iowa, Mr. Cole was a graduate of Staunton Military Academy and of Northwestern University where he was a member of Phi Alpha Delta and Delta Tau Delta fraternities.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Roberta C. Cole; a daughter, Mrs. William B. Bradley, Miami; three sons, H. Stanley Price, Miami, Perry Cole, Tampa, and John A. Cole, with the Navy, and three grandchildren.
