George Young, 61 years old, died at his home in Almena last Thursday morning, at 2:30 o'clock. Pneumonia was the cause of his death.
Mr. Young leaves a widow, a daughter, Mrs. Ed Armstrong of Almena, and a son, Wilbert Young, who lives in Cummins, Iowa. He is also survived by a brother, J. A. M. Young, and a sister, Mrs. Joseph Armstrong, both of Almena.
George M. Young was born in Johnson county, Indiana, in 1845. In the spring of 1850 he moved with his parents to Madison county, Iowa, where he lived until 1862, when, at the age of 17, he enlisted in Co. F. 39th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He served for three years, during which time he was taken prisoner and spent 10 months in Libby, Andersonville and Florence prisons. At the end of that time he was paroled and returned to his home in Iowa. He moved to Almena in 1892, and resided here until the time of his death.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Friday morning conducted by Elder W. E. Wolfe. The pall bearers were chosen from the G. A. R. of which he was a member. The remains were interred in the Almena Cemetery.
