Charles Arlington McGriff, son of Patrick and Sarah Fordyce McGriff, was born on March 23, 1880 at Monroe, Iowa, and passed away on Monday morning, Dec. 4, 1950 at the Skiff Memorial hospital in Newton at the age of 70 years. Death was due to an asthmatic attack.

He was the last remaining member of his parents’ family and is survived by his wife, the former Amy Ferguson; five children, Mrs. Earl (Carmen) Schrull, and Patrick McGriff of Newton, Mrs. Bernard (Alice) Hummel, Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Patrick and Mrs. Chas. (Clarice) Hoagland of Monroe; 9 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, and several other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Crumpacker Funeral Home in Monroe and graveside rites were held that afternoon at the Barney cemetery near Lorimor. The Rev. W. Guy Hamilton of the Monroe United Presbyterian church was in charge of both services.

A lifelong resident of Jasper county, he was well-known throughout this area in his profession as a plasterer and cement contractor. Ill health forced him to retire several years ago.
