Richard Hook Guyer, age 76, passed away on December 5, 2021 at his home in Truro.

Visitation will be held at O’Leary Funeral & Cremation Services on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 and burial will immediately follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Des Moines.

Richard was born on July 10, 1945 to Ernest and Alice (Hook) Guyer. He attended North High School where he played and later lettered in Golf. Following high school, he attended Grandview College where he later left to serve his country. Richard was a Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1966-1970 and was stationed in Vietnam.

On September 24, 1967, Richard married the love of his life, Judy Kay Legan, and they spent 54 years happily together. He worked as the Assistant Produce Manager at Dahls for 30+ years before working for Walmart during his retirement.

Richard was a lover of all animals but especially loved his horses, cats and dog. One of his favorite hobbies was taking care of his lawn.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Alice Guyer, and his son-in-law, Jim Gilbert.

He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife, Judy; his sister Carolyn Frost of Des Moines, his daughter Candy Gilbert of Norwalk; his grandsons, Cody (Beth Cooper) Gilbert of Norwalk and Jason (Rebecca) Gilbert of Indianola; and his great grandchildren, Adrianna and Addison Gilbert of Indianola, Gracelynn and Axel Gilbert of Norwalk.
