Wayne Max Young of St. Marys, Iowa, passed away peacefully at Stoney Point Meadows in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on September 30, 2021. Wayne was born April 30, 1929, near St. Marys to Hugh and Ida Young. He attended school in St. Marys, where he met his wife of almost 70 years, Micky. They eloped and were married on Christmas Eve 1949 and made their home near St. Marys. Wayne worked many years at National Gas Pipeline Company of America, helping maintain a 300 mile stretch of pipeline transporting natural gas from the Gulf of Mexico to Chicago. He and Micky operated “Wayne’s Famous Sweetcorn" for many years, selling from their home and to local grocery stores. Upon retirement, he and Micky became snowbirds wintering in Mission, Texas, for 27 years. When Micky was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Wayne cared for her in their home for over 15 years until her death. Wayne enjoyed being outside and working on his farm. More than anything, though, he enjoyed simply spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; siblings Lyle, Ruth, Ruby, John, Dean, June, Ivan, and Maxine; and great-grandson Alexander.

Visitation will take place on Friday, October 15, to at Kale Funeral Home, 301 South Main Street, Osceola. The family will not be present. The family invites guests to a graveside funeral service at 11am Saturday, October 16, at Union Chapel Cemetery, Settlers Trail and 235th Street, St. Charles.
