Dale Eugene Beaman
May 24, 1932 - August 27, 2021

Dale Beaman, Sr. will be remembered as a loving family man and friend who never knew a stranger. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures - a cup of coffee and conversation with friends, time spent with family, enjoying the outdoors, fishing, mowing or just going for a car ride. His most favorite past time was collecting new nicknames…Uncle Dale, Papa, Grampa, Okie, Big Burt. Each nickname was a badge he wore with honor and pride as it represented his ever-expanding circle.

Dale was born at home in Madison County, Iowa with his twin sister, Dolores on May 24, 1932. He graduated from St. Charles Consolidated High School in 1950. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. He was stationed in Key West and aboard a heavy cruiser out of Norfolk, VA on the Atlantic fleet.

After his time in the Navy, Dale returned to St. Charles and worked in the family’s meat locker for 7 years. Dale Jr. was born in 1955 to his marriage to Mae Riley, who passed away with heart problems in 1962.

Dale married Kathy Seibert in 1963. Just two years into their marriage, their family grew in expected and unexpected ways. As Kathy was pregnant with their son Brent, she was involved in a car accident in which her parents were killed. While caring for Dale Jr., preparing for a new baby, and supporting Kathy as she healed from her serious injuries from the accident, Dale opened his home and heart to Kathy’s younger brothers, Walt and Bill (ages 21 and 13) to be a part of his family.

Most of Dale’s professional career was in the transportation business, which took him and the family from Fremont, IA to North Little Rock, AR, to Mason City, IA to Des Moines to Palmetto, FL to Duluth, GA, where he retired in 1995.

Dale and Kathy came home to St. Charles in 2001 and were welcomed back into the community they loved so dearly. Dale became immediately involved serving several years on the St. Charles Library board, and he also volunteered at the elementary school - tutoring, mentoring, and caring for young people. Dale was a member of St. Charles Parish. Dale annually served an important role as Commissioner of Cow Pie Bingo, a.k.a. the Plopmaster, at St. Charles Old Settlers.

Fishing was one of his hobbies that kept him busy. He also enjoyed woodworking and sharing this talent with neighbors, family and friends. Dale was as a great storyteller and someone who valued the connections that hold our community together - always recounting who lives where and who is related to whom. Dale was a wealth of knowledge about his community and kept this history alive by sharing his memories and stories. The last few years were spent at the dining room table doing word puzzles and Sudoku and watching comings and goings of our little town.

Dale passed away August 27, 2021 at home at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathy. In addition to his friends, he will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Dale Beaman Jr. (Kathy) and Brent Beaman (Mike Black), as well as two brothers-in-law whom he loved like sons, Walt Seibert (Rose Adams) and Bill Seibert (Mary) and their families; nieces Carla Wingfield, Carmin Miller (Craig), Karen Peterson; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and an extended network of cousins, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Beaman and Lura Fife Beaman, sister and brother-in-law Dolores and Merlyn Sinn, sister Barbara Beaman, niece Connie Sinn, and first wife, Mae Riley Beaman.
