Mortimor, son of S.T. and Lelitia Johnston, living three miles south of town, died very sudden last Tuesday and was buried in the St. Charles cemetery Wednesday afternoon, Rev. S.W. Lee preaching the funeral sermon at the M.E. church to a large congregation.

Mortimor was 14 year old June 6, 1890.

One week ago he was sound and well to all appearances. Saturday afternoon he complained of a pain in his hip, which became more and more intense, and by night it had rendered him unconscious. From Saturday night until death he spoke but once, saying to his father a little while before death, "Pa I'm about gone." The aliment was an effection of the spine.

He was a promising, industrious boy, of good habits, and a great help to his father in the management of the farm. The blow is a hard one to the parents and very keenly felt over all the community as shown by the immense crowed at the funeral, the procession being about one-half mile long.

There is something exceptionally sad in the death of one so young and vigorous, one who has so many bright prospects ahead. But it is said that "death loves a shining mark," and by the number of favorites who yearly drop from family circles in our midst, is proven the truthfulness of the phrase.
