Mary Wildin

Mary Wildin, 87, of Winterset, died Monday, July 12, 2021 at Ramsey Village in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel, where family will greet friends one hour prior, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Union Chapel Cemetery, Madison County. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.

Mary Louise Brown was born in Earlham, Iowa on September 21, 1933, the daughter of Ernest and Anna (Hochstetler) Brown. She graduated from Earlham High School in 1952 and later married Jay Wildin in 1953 at the Earlham Early Chapel Church.

Mary was a homemaker. She also worked at JCPenney, Hometown Decorating, Coast to Coast Hardware and Jeanne’s Clothing. She was a member of Hoosier Prairie Club, Modern Misses, was a great 4-H Leader for the Scott Skylarks, and enjoyed volunteering at the hospital. She was involved with the Madison County Republican Committee and was instrumental in getting President Reagan to come to Winterset.

Mary loved to write poetry, was a great cook and was an excellent seamstress. She loved to get away and travel with her husband. She loved to go fishing, boating and mushroom hunting. She and Jay also enjoyed square dancing on the weekends. Mary especially enjoyed going to her grandkids’ ballgames.

Mary is survived by her husband, Jay; her children, Vicki (Bob) Martin, Sandy (Ray) Parker, and Rae Jean (Grant) McDonald; brother, Don Brown; grandchildren, Matt McDonald, Nick McDonald, Brad Parker, Josh Allen, Jordan Martin, Mike Wildin, Ryan Wildin, Ricky Wildin, Jennifer Frease, Renee Neuenkirk, Carly Parker, Randi Parker, and Tosha Abbott; and 27 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Anna (Hochstetler) Brown; son, Mike Wildin; sister, Lee Brown; great grandson, Lucas Abbott; and sister-in-law, Joan Brown.
