Page 4, Column 1A six year old son of John Avery, of St. Charles, was playing near his brother and was struck by a chisel which slipped from the hands of the older boy. The wound was not dangerous but the little fellow had just recovered from the measles and death resulted from the reaction.

Mr. and Mrs. John Avey, living one half mile from town, have been brought to mourn the loss of a son, a bright little boy seven years of age, under the most painful circumstances. It seems that his brother Joe, about fifteen years old, swung a chisel toward him quite forcibly. The chisel being lose in the handle flew out and penetrated the little boy's back to such depth that, after suffering four days he departed whence, "The weary are at rest." The funeral services held last Sabbath in the ME church were of the most impressive character. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire neighborhood.
