Ray Patton Cameron was born Sept. 5, 1936, to Arthur M. Cameron and Grace M. (Patton) Cameron, the youngest of seven children. He grew to be the tallest in the family, spoke in soft, deep tones and was always ready with a laugh.

While married to Betty (Jones) Cameron, Ray was blessed with two children, Randal Ray Cameron and Rae Ann Cameron Campbell. Ray loved his children very much.

Ray was a milkman for the Borden Milk Company for many years and was featured in a Better Homes and Gardens article picturing him in his uniform. He also had jobs with other dairies after Borden closed, then Moorman Feeds, and driving vehicles for auction as well as picking up and delivering specimens from hospitals in Iowa.

Ray’s passion was golf and his 6’6” frame likely made for a sweet swing! His golf buddies made sure that he was out on the course as recently as one week prion to him taking that walk to the final hole with nothing but a putter in his hand. Nice shot, Ray.

He ran a league for a group of golfers from 29 manufactured home/RV parks in the Apache Junction area. And he was extremely proud that he had hit a hole in one!

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Rae Ann (2019); brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Lorraine Cameron of California; brother, Phil Cameron, of Winterset; brothers-in-law, Howard Gowin, Don Lightner, and Jay Fenimore; parents-in-law, Darrell and Josephine Thompson; sister-in-law, Mavis Higgins; step son, Darrell (DJ) Johnsson; and his beloved cat, Buddy.

He is survived by his wife, Carol of Apache Junction; son, Randy (Brenda) of Missouri; step children, Kim Rockvan, Tracie Durocher, and Kerry Watkins and their families; and grandchildren Whitney (Mary) Buchman of Kansas and Ashley (Ben) Clark of Nebraska. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Cadyn and Rylee Clark; sisters, Margaret Gowin of Altoona, Barbara Lightner of Clive, and Beverly Fenimore of Urbandale; and his brother, Rex (Sharon) Cameron of Osceola; his sister-in-law, Ruth Cameron of West Des Moines; brother-in-law, Randy Higgins; sisters-in-law, Linda Ashby and Nancy Glenn; and Bety Cameron, the mother of his children; along with many loving nieces and nephews and their families, and a host of friends.

A Celebration of Life, Time for Sharing Memories, and Lite Lunch will be held at Country Club Crossing, 1101 Hickory Blvd, Altoona, on Saturday, July 24, 2021, from 1-4 p.m.

It is the desire of the family to make a gift in Ray’s memory to the new Madison County Conservation Center at Pammel Park. If you would like to help, you may contribute via a family member or individually.
