Stuart Lee Thompson passed away at the Mercy One Hospice House in Johnston on June 5, 2021, at the age of 82. Stuart was preceded in death by his parents, Lee V. and Bette J. Thompson of Newton; his sister, Marlene L. Bowers of Citrus Heights, Calif; and grand-nephew, Dale of Citrus Heights.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marcia Lancaster-Thompson; children, Gary Thompson (Carla) of Newton, David Thompson (Pam) of Baxter, Steven Thompson of Kellogg, Dr. Michael Thompson (Anne) of Pella, Eric Thompson (Stacie) of St. Charles, Angela Crawley (Ronald) of St. Charles, and Amber Bortner (David) of St. Charles; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved 1930 Model A and 1913 brass Model T.

Stuart graduated from Newton High School in 1956. He worked as an asphalt laydown machine operator for his family business, Thompson Brothers Construction Company in Newton; farmed in Jasper, Madison, Clark & Union counties; worked as a parts person and a mechanic, as well as car and furniture salesman. His love, second to his family, was restoring antique automobiles and probably restored more than 50 cars and trucks during his lifetime. Stuart and his family have lived in their rural St. Charles 1880s home that he renovated since the early 1970s.

A private family interment service was held at Blair Chapel on June 8. A Celebration of Life will be held at Blair Chapel, 3197 220th Street, in rural St. Charles on June 19 at 5 p.m. with family and friends encouraged to attend.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Charles Parish or the American Cancer Society.
