PRESTON, Minn. – Donald Prohaska, 54, rural Preston, died late Saturday night of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

His death was ruled a suicide by Dr. R. L. Sauer, Preston, Fillmore County coroner.

HIS BODY was found In the bedroom of his home, one half mile west of Forestville State Park.

Dr. Sauer said Prohaska died of a wound in the right temple from a 22-caliber rifle.

The coroner and Fillmore County Authorities were called to the home at 12:01 a.m. Sunday. Dr. Sauer said the suicide victim had been dead about 45 minutes.

An employe of Hadland and Freeman Construction Co., Spring Valley, he was born June 13, 1920 in Earlham, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Prohaska. He married Zolamae Lindley Aug. 9, 1941, in Norwalk, Iowa. The couple farmed in Iowa until 1948. They then moved to Fillmore County where he was employed by the construction firm.

SURVIVORS ARE: his wife; one son, Donald Glenn, Fergus Falls, Minn.; two daughters, Mrs. John W. (Doris) Palmer, Alton, Kan., and Mrs. Arvin (Lois) Vanderplas, Harmony, Minn.; six grandchildren and one brother, Clarence, Spring Valley. His mother and three brothers have died.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Cherry Grove United Methodist Church, the Rev. James E. White officiating. The body will be cremated.

Friends may call at Jorris-Osland Funeral Home, Spring Valley, today from 3 to 9 p.m.
