Page 4, Columns 1, 2WHITING. IOWA Mabel Luella McMains, 95, formerly of Rapid City, SD, and Creston, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. CST Saturday, Feb. 14, at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with Reverend Richard Moore, officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the chapel. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Lorimor Cemetery, Lorimor. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
Mabel Luella was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Peru, IA, the daughter of Edward L. and Faith (Perryman) Pinckney. She was raised in the Peru area where she attended school. She obtained a Bachelors of Science degree from Madison Wisconsin University and Black Hills State at Spearfish, SD. She was a teacher at Rio, WI, where she taught 7th and 8th grade mathematics for 11 years.
Mabel and Richard A. McMains were united in marriage in November of 1940. They raised three children. Richard passed away in July of 1990.
She enjoyed making Barbie doll clothes, doilies, and cooking.
She was a member of the Creston doll club and the Baptist Church in Creston, IA.
Mabel is survived by her daughter, Sandra Betz of Sloan, IA; her son, Richard D. (Diane) McMains of Harrah, OK; nine grandchildren, Martin Betz, Chris (Beth) Betz, Penny (Todd) Wilson, Richard D. (Jennifer) McMains, Jr., Gail (James) Dibble, Laura McMains, Danielle McMains, Michael McMains, and Katy McMains; eight great-grandchildren, Makayla Wilson, Amanda Betz, Matthew Betz, Mackenzie Betz, Logan McMains, Faith McMains, DaShawn McMains, and Shealynn McMains; one sister, Edna Christensen of Rapid City, SD; and two brothers, William Pinckney of Tillamonk, OR, and Robert Pinckney of Genessa, NY.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. McMains; her parents, Edward L. and Faith Pinckney; one brother, James Pinckney; her son, Daniel McMains; and two sisters, Helen Gould and Ruth Blauer.
Memorials in Mabel’s memory may be directed to Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.
