Alberta Kay (Howard)Jones

Alberta Kay (Howard) Jones, 74, passed away in the comfort of her home on April 24, 2021. A graveside service will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery in Des Moines, IA on Saturday, May 1, at 11:00 am. A short visitation will precede the service from 10:30 - 11:00 am.

Alberta was born in Des Moines on December 22, 1946 to Alfred and Carrie (Wheeler) Howard. Throughout her life, Alberta has resided in New Virginia, Murray, Des Moines, and Winterset.

Alberta married Thomas Alvin Jones on March 2, 1968 in Des Moines, Iowa. They shared nearly two decades together until Thomas’s death in 1988. They raised three daughters together.

She loved to do puzzles at the kitchen table until midnight, sometimes one in the morning. She loved sewing, making blankets and different stuff for her grandkids. She loved watching soap operas and games shows during the day. She enjoyed the sometimes endless conversations talking to her friends on the phone at night. She loved her flowers; we would plant her favorite flower in front of her window so she could look at them grow every year. She loved to listen to Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley on her little cd player. We used to sit outside on the porch during rainstorms - she thought they were so peaceful, and she loved the smell of the fresh rain.

Another one of her hobbies was researching genealogy. She LOVED her genealogy. She has stacks upon stacks of books and family history she accrued over the years. Her friends Lois and Ginger were her genealogy friends and she had so much fun with them. During Christmas time she always had a feast made for anyone that popped in. During the summer time the house was a revolving door of kids running in and out. She would cook dinner for an army almost every night and never complain. The memories for all of us are endless.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; daughter, Karen McGee; and a great-grandson, Bowen Behlers.

She is survived by two daughters: Kathy Ely and Cindy Behlers; four grandchildren: Glen Amodeo, Ronnie Amodeo, Cassidy Ely, and Alex Ely; 6 step-grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
